It would seem that a significant number of commentators speaking about the impending race for the president have started to suggest that the political views of the country might shift simply because of what religion is embraced by a particular candidate. Mitt Romney, one of the frontrunners for the Republican nomination, has had his political opinions overshadowed by comments on his religion with some of the other potential candidates and their supporters suggesting that religion alone could be a reason not to support a particular presidential contender. It is reminiscent of the presidential race where John F. Kennedy won and a lot of commentators criticized his Catholicism.
