If you examine the head of a fastener, you might notice that there are some markings that are numbers and letters. The manufacturer's mark will be stamped on the top of the fastener's head in the form of initials and will be that company's statement that the piece meets proper manufacturing standards. The numbers visible on the other side of the fastener are usually the grade of the fastener as applied to standard grades for the industry.
